John the Baptist: the last and most extraordinary painting by Leonardo da Vinci
Know thyself
“I warn you, whoever you are. You, who desires to probe the mysteries of Nature, if you can’t find within what you are looking for, you will not be able to find it outside either. If you ignore the wonders of your own house, how do you expect to find other wonders? Within you is hidden the treasure of the Gods. Oh man, know thyself and you will know the universe and the Gods.”
Delphic Oracle
As seen in the previous chapters, disease is nothing other than a mirror of our own psychic state, it is the physical manifesation of our unrecognized and/or unsolved conflicts. The ultimate goal of recovery is to find our true origin, so that we may free ourselves from what limits our happiness. This is the only purpose for us being here. Our spirit is mirrored through matter and in this act both are transformed. Spirit and matter, poles of a same unity, regenerate each other through friction, which generates the fire of consciousness:
“Look up, oh Lanu; do you see innumerable lights burning above you in the night’s darkness?”. “I perceive only one flame, oh Gurudeva, and I see innumerable inseparable sparks that shine within the one flame”
Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, the Secret Doctrine, I, 145
Our true inner nature is pure consciousness, it’s that observing witness. The personality part, made up by body, mind and emotions is the vehicle of the witness. The manifest world stimulates us with infinite impulses, that grab us and compel us to identify with them. Through a spiritual journey we have the opportunity to bring order back on all levels of our lives, and be “that which observes” in the three worlds. The ability to observe is the road toward mastery.
Krishnamurti, philosopher and spiritual teacher, declares:
“There is a revolution that we must make if we are to drop our agony, our conflicts and frustrations. This revolution must not begin with theories and ideologies, but with a radical transformation of the mind”.
Jiddu Krishnamurti
He teaches how to observe our thoughts and emotions and explains that if one learns to observe in a free and detached manner, without preconditioning and stereotypes, without philosophical and religious identifications, one begins to see reality for what it really is. This ability to observe is an act of intelligence full of energy, so the very act of observing brings about a deep transformation, as the observer and the observed are no longer separate.
Below are some extracts of his discourses:
Krishanmurti at the United Nations headquarters:
Krishnamurti had the extraordinary ability to gather the essence of spiritual practice and translate the art of Self-realization in modern and nondenominational psychological terms. In reality all religions, all spiritual paths lead to the same destination: within every one of us there is a divine spark, that when realized becomes the source of infinite happiness and bliss. Krishnamurti emphasized this extraordinary possibility of human beings, but he wanted to remove any dogma, belief, and sense of belonging that could be of obstacle to this research. This was done to demonstrate that humanity and truth are one. Nothing can divide us in reality, only our illusions can.
The art of observation is therefore the mastery way for knowing one's Self, as it allows us to understand and see the psychological mechanism that determine our behaviour. Consciousness is light projected on what is observed. This leads to a triple result: psychological understanding, its transformation, and the contact with the Self. In fact the more one observes the more one activates the quality of awareness, that gradually becomes more powerful, and one realizes the unity between Soul and personality.
The Self
"Instead of searching for what you do not have, find out what is it that you have never lost".
Nisargadatta Maharaj
At this stage the obvious questions is raised: what is the real nature of the Self? The Self is our true identity, our spiritual consciousness, made up of Spirit (Monad) and the Soul. The Soul is manifested through the personality. Therefore we have the triad: Monad, Soul and personality. The soul acts as a bridge between Spirit and Matter. The master Tibetan, through Alice Bailey, gives the following definitions (Treatise on White Magic, p. 34-37):
"The definition of the soul may be regarded as somewhat more feasible than that of spirit owing to the fact that there are many people who have experienced at sometime or another an illumination, an unfoldment, an uplifting, and a beatitude which has convinced them that there is a state of consciousness so far removed from that normally experienced as to bring them into a new state of being and a new level of awareness. It is something felt and experienced, and involves that psychic expansion which the mystic has registered down the ages, and which St. Paul referred to when he spoke of being "caught up to the third Heaven," and of hearing things there which it is not lawful for man to utter. When hearing and sight on those levels are both producing registered experience then we have the occultist plus the mystic.
1. The soul, macrocosmic and microcosmic, universal and human, is that entity which is brought into being when the spirit aspect and the matter aspect are related to each other.
a. The soul therefore is neither spirit nor matter but is the relation between them.
b. The soul is the mediator between this duality; it is the middle principle, the link between God and His form.
c. Therefore the soul is another name for the Christ principle, whether in nature or in man.
2. The soul is the attractive force of the created universe and (when functioning) holds all forms together so that the life of God may manifest or express itself through them.
a. Therefore the soul is the form-building aspect, and is that attractive factor in every form in the universe, in the planet, in the kingdoms of nature and in man (who sums up in himself all the aspects) which brings the form into being, which enables it to develop and grow so as to house more adequately the indwelling life, and which drives all God's creatures forward along the path of evolution, through one kingdom after another, towards an eventual goal and a glorious consummation.
b. The soul is the force of evolution itself and this was in the mind of St. Paul when he spoke of the
"Christ in you, the hope of glory."
3. This soul manifests differently in the various kingdoms of nature, but its function is ever the same, whether we are dealing with an atom of substance and its power to preserve its identity and form, and carry forward its activity along its own lines, or whether we deal with a form in one of the three kingdoms of nature, held coherently together, demonstrating characteristics, pursuing its own instinctual life and working as a whole towards something higher and better.
a. Therefore the soul is that which gives distinctive characteristics and differing form manifestations.
b. The soul plays upon matter, forcing it to assume certain shapes, to respond to certain vibrations and to build those specified phenomenal forms which we recognise in the world of the physical plane as mineral, vegetable, animal and human,óand for the initiate certain other forms as well.
4. The qualities, vibrations, colours, and characteristics in all the kingdoms of nature are soul qualities, as are the latent powers in any form seeking expression, and demonstrating potentiality. In their sum total at the close of the evolutionary period, they will reveal what is the nature of the divine life and of the world soul,óthat oversoul which is revealing the character of God.
a. Therefore the soul, through these qualities and characteristics, manifests as conscious response to
matter, for the qualities are brought into being through the interplay of the pairs of opposites, spirit and matter, and their effect upon each other. This is the basis of consciousness.
b. The soul is the conscious factor in all forms, the source of that awareness which all forms register
and of that responsiveness to surrounding group conditions which the forms in every kingdom of nature demonstrate.
c. Therefore the soul might be defined as that significant aspect in every form (made through this union of spirit and matter) which feels, registers awareness, attracts and repels, responds or denies response and keeps all forms in a constant condition of vibratory activity.
d. The soul is the perceiving entity produced through the union of Father-Spirit and Mother-Matter. It is that which in the vegetable world, for instance, produces response to the sun's rays, and the unfolding of the bud; it is that in the animal kingdom which enables it to love its master, hunt its prey, and follow out its instinctual life; it is that in man which makes him aware of his environment and his group, which enables him to live his life in the three worlds of his normal evolution as the onlooker, the perceiver, the actor. This it is which enables him eventually to discover that this soul in him is dual and that part of him responds to the animal soul and part of him recognises his divine soul. The majority however, at this time will be found to be functioning fully as neither purely animal nor purely divine, but can be regarded as human souls."
Below is the chart of the various planes of existence:
From the chart it's interesting to notice that the Soul is defined as spiritual triad, formed by the atmic plane (Will, Shiva, the Father), the buddhic plane (Love, Vishnu, the Son), and the superior mental plane (Intelligence, Brahma, the Holy Spirit).
Now as the nature of the Self has been defined, we may ask ourselves how to be aware of it? The first fundamental step is to develop concentration and observe the inner and outer reality. This focalized psychic energy evokes the presence of the Self as awareness. The second step is to engage in a process of self-enquiry, which in Sanskrit is called "Atma Vichara". This practice was made known to the world by the great master avatar Ramana Maharshi, and also by Nisargadatta Maharaj. "Atma Vichara" is a Jnana Yoga practice part of the Advaita Vedanta tradition. According to Maharshi this is the master way to Self-realization. Maharshi invited all sincere seekers that sat in his company, to ask the question "who am I?". When the seeker asks this question with sincerity, she/he realizes that the mind does not have an answer to this self-enquiry, so it gradually surrenders and calms down. In that moment another answer arrives which is not mental. The answer is the emanation of the Self that is perceived in various ways, such as divine love, bliss, joy, supreme intelligence or other spiritual qualities. It's a real spiritual answer that many masters have symbolically simplified with the mantra "So ham", i.e. "I (Soul) am That". This realization can only be experienced by the aspirant, nobody can ever give this answer-experience to another, as it is an answer coming from within. If the seeker is sincere the answer will come. The Christ used to say: "Ask and you shall receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you, For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened." (Matthew, 7,7-11).
Below are some footages of the great Avatar Ramana Maharshi:
H.W.L Poonja (affectionately called Papaji) was one of Ramana Maharshi's main disciples, who helped spread the Advaita Vedanta message to the west in a very simple yet effective way:
Meditation
Anandamayi Ma in samadhi
"Nothing in the world is greater than the Self. All our joy, all our inspiration, and all our strength comes from the Self. In fact it contains everything in the universe. You will experience it when you will turn your attention within and you will see it in meditation."
Swami Muktananda
The art and science that enables one to get in contact with the Self is meditation. It enables to build the antahkarana, an energy structure, a bridge of light in the superior mental plane that unites the personality with the Soul, i.e. a communication channel between the Soul's consciousness and the brain. To build this light bridge (antahkarana) requires time, it doesn't happen quickly. It is truly an organ that develops gradually, thanks to every single contact with Consciousness. The function of meditation is to fuel this process. Once the antahkarana is completely formed, personality and Soul merge into one being and consciousness no longer perceives separation between the spiritual and material reality. Every form of dualism is dissolved. The individual realizes his/her real nature. Reality is perceived in a radically different way, the inner divinity unites with the outer divinity. The divine Self may manifest both as transcendental or as immanent reality. In fact the most extraordinary revelation experienced by the meditator is that everthing is God. The meditator enters in the pure state of Samadhi.
To prove that this is not just theory, I would like to share a fragment of a personal experience. In one of my trips to India, I was spending time at the foothills of the holy mountain of Arunachala. One day with a dear friend we climbed to the top. Astrologically it was new moon day in Capricorn, plus there were a total of 6 planets in Capricorn. Capricorn represents vision (having reached the top) and spiritual attainment. It was a great purification to walk to the top of one of the holiest mountains in the Indian sub-continent under the strong sun. According to the Rig Veda, Arunachala is one of the main manifestations of Shiva. When we came down from the extraordinary pilgrimage we went to meditate in a small ashram, at the foothills of the mountain, where a yogini gives daily darshan in perfect silence. It was during that occasion that I was gifted with a spiritual experience that forever signed my inner spiritual path: a blessing in meditation, an infinite joy pervaded my whole being. A flux of divine energy went up my spine and came out from my crown center at the top of the head embracing everything around me. The same energy around me returned through the top pervading every cell of my body. This dance of energy united the inner with the outer, dissolving all separations. All was One. And even more extraordinary was the fact that everything I looked upon was absolutely divine. Even when looking a grain of sand I was seeing God. This bliss was so powerful that I didn't need to do anything to keep it going. Everything happened in complete naturalness and without effort for several hours. Thanks to this gift, during this particular cosmological moment, I understood that what all the spiritual masters have always been teaching is absolutely true. I understood clearly when Christ said "Seek first the kingdom of God, and all else will be added to you." I'm infinitely grateful to Life for this experience.
In terms of healing and health it's easily understandable why the realization of a meditative consciousness enables one to end any form of psychological pain. Moreover there is a state of peace and inner joy, reestablishing a harmonious flux of energy all over the body, freeing up any form of energy contraction at the level of the chakras, meridians and nadis. Vital energy is guaranteed to every cell of the body, triggering a powerful healing process.
Swami Muktananda
There are different meditation techniques, but in reality the technique itself is not the goal, what counts is to understand the principle. The superior mind is the door to the supramental world. If one understands how to polarize oneself on that plane, then it's the Soul that guides the meditator. The Self becomes the object of meditation. Swami Muktananda says:
"If you want to meditate with success you have to understand what you are meditating on. People meditate on every type of object with various techniques. Others even meditate on their fantasies. Others on parts of the body, but none of these techniques can lead you to the Self. If you want to reach the Self, you have to meditate on the Self, on the inner witness. If you don't understand what the inner witness is, you are not meditating correctly. The majority of people, instead of meditating on the Self, follow the mind, trying to get rid of thoughts, just like chasing a thief from your house, with a stick." He then adds: "The Self sees everything you do inside and outside of yourselves. Knowing that knower is true meditation. Therefore don't try to put conditions to your meditations. Simply turn your attention within, toward the knower that always knows. Don't worry if the mind wanders off. In the sky clouds come and go, but the sky remains uncontaminated and pure, similarly when thoughts arise, the Self is not affected. If you can, eliminate them, if you cannot, perceive the witness of these thoughts. If you focus on the witness, thoughts will eventually settle on their own. When the mind becomes free of thought, the light of the Self will naturally reveal itself."
"The day you convince your mind that you really want to meet God in inner silence, it will be easy for you to sit in silence and meditate deeply."
Yogananda
Swami Sivananda in samadhi
"From meditation is present a great silence, not silence cultivated, not the silence between two thoughts, two sounds, but an unimaginable silence. The brain becomes extraordinarily quiet, when engaged in this process of investigation, when there is silence, there is a huge perception. In that silence there is a void, an emptiness that is the sum of all energy."
Jiddu Krishnamurti – The fullness of life
Group meditation is another tool to strengthen this practice, particularly transmission meditation.
Transmission meditation
"Answering an inner call from their Soul, many people today, are looking for a way to serve. One of the most powerful ways of service - that can be easily done and that produces extraordinary results for the planet and for human beings - is Transmission Meditation."
Benjamin Creme
Benjamin Creme
Transmission meditation is a modern form of group meditation given to world by the Master of Benjmain Creme in March 1974. It is based on two fundamental factors: service (karma yoga) and energy chakra stimulation (laya yoga).
In fact transmission meditation is first of all a way to serve the world, as we are at the beginning of the Age of Aquarius, new great vitalizing energies are flowing in. They will allow the transformation of all old structures that have conditioned humanity for the past 2000 years, such as in the field of politics, religion, economy, science and art. As these new impulses of energy consciousness have great frequency, they can penetrate the etheric network of planet earth. Transmission meditation can transform these vibrations so that they can be better integrated in the network and can be absorbed in the various human activities. How does this happen? They are being literally channeled through the chakras of the meditators who act as transformers, lowering the frequencies. As a consequence (second point) there is a powerful stimulation of the psychic centers of the participants. This leads to a powerful and harmonious spiritual development.
Creme, with great sense of humor, says: if you want to help the world, but you don't know where to begin? Then do transmission meditation.
Why is transmission meditation so effective? It really is a gift from the Gods, as it is managed and guided by the Masters of Wisdom, Beings that with their wisdom and spiritual evolution, perfectly harness these energies. They manage the meditation in an absolutely scientific way, adequately stimulating the centers of the participants (laya yoga) and offering the world these enlivening forces to be used for service (karma yoga).
Transmission meditation is something quite extraordinary, it's simple, free, nondenominational, open to all, free of charge, in a few words it's suitable to all, especially whoever under the impulse of the soul feels an urge to serve. The states of consciousness experienced in this kind of work are incredible and the access to the Self is accelerated.
In my hometown, Locarno, Switzerland, there is a group of about 40 people that have the possibility to participate to 4 weekly transmission meditations. Each person can participate in the best way they can. Whoever is interested can write to me at simone.lurati@bluewin.ch. It will be my pleasure to share all the necessary information regarding the technique and how to get the book of transmission meditation in pdf format (free via email). Whoever wants to buy the book in paperback it's available in many languages.

The Masters of Wisdom
Several times we have mentioned the Masters of Wisdom, and to conclude this chapter, I would like to share some information regarding a few of these extraordinary Beings.
A Master of Wisdom is a being that has perfectly realized the nature of the Self, completely free of lower compulsions, or any limitations or illusions in the physical, emotional, and mental plane. They are no longer identified with their personalities, they are pure divine essence. They stay on Earth to help their younger brothers and sisters, guiding them behind the scenes, along the path toward liberation. They have inspired all the great ideas that are at the base of human civilization, in every field: political, spiritual, philosophical, economical, artistic, scientific and social. Without their help most probably humanity would still be quite primitive.
In most cases their name and form are not recognized: they lived for years in remote areas of the world, such as the Himalayas, the Carpathians, the Gobi desert, etc, inspiring the most receptive disciples, that have further put into form the learned knowledge. More and more the masters are approaching, gradually becoming known to humanity. This is happening because we are converging toward three fundamental crises that will involve the whole planet, i.e. the economic crisis, the ecological crisis, and the devastating poverty crisis that is hitting one billion people on earth. They will help us find right solutions, provided that we are willing to have a shift in consciousness. Humanity has to ask for it, they will never interfere with our free will. If we choose to grow, they will show us new ways, new understandings and new solutions. However humanity will have to do the work, but with these new understandings a new age will open up.
In human history different masters have left a mark, such as Krishna, Buddha, Jesus Christ, Lao Tse, Confucius, Shankaracharya, Vyasa, etc. If one considers that these incarnations happened during the last 2500 years, we can understand that their presence has been relatively rare. Nowadays we are living in an extraordinary time, as the Masters are more and more known and present all around world. This process is already on the way. I will list a few extraordinary examples of Masters that have appeared during the last century.
Paramahansa Yogananda
5.1.1893-7.3.1952
Yogananda was an extraordinary Yogi and Avatar who through his bestseller "Autobiography of a Yogi" introduced Kriya Yoga and the Indian spiritual tradition to the world. He revealed the existence of the immortal Yogi Mahavatar Babaji, his master along with Sri Yuktesvar.
Sri Yukteswar Giri
10.5.1855-9.3.1936
Master of Yogananda and disciple of Lahiri Mahasaya. Lahiri Mahasaya introduced him to the teachings of Kriya Yoga. Yukteswar wrote the famous book "The Holy Science".
Mahavatara Babaji
The great Avatar who lives in the Himalayas, whose age is unknown. Master of Lahiri Mahasaya, to whom he revealed Kriya Yoga. This teaching was further handed down to Sri Yukteswar and then to Yogananda who spread it to the world at large. Though Babaji is regarded as one of the most important beings in the Indian culture, very few people have ever met him. Contrary to a common belief, Babaji of Haidakhan is certainly not an incarnation of Mahavatar Babaji.
Ramakrishna
18.2.1836-16.8.1886
Extraordinary spiritual teacher who has had an enormous impact on the Indian culture. He's considered an Avatar. He taught unity of religions and the way toward liberation. He was very close to the poor and showed the way for a society without a caste system.
Vivekananda
12.1.1863-4.2.1902
Disciple of Ramakrishna, founded the Ramakrishna mission in 1897, with the intent of "improving the material and spiritual conditions of humanity without distinction of caste, belief, race, nationality, gender or religion", and promoting brotherhood among the adepts of different religions, knowing that religions are merely different forms of one unique eternal and universal religion. He wrote several books. He wanted to create a bridge between east and west. He walked all over India on foot. He traveled in different parts of the world, including the United States, where he spoke at various conferences at universities and spoke at the parliament of the world religions in Chicago on September 11, 1893.
Ramana Maharshi
30.12.1879-14.4.1950
It was mentioned earlier about this extraordinary spiritual master. He influenced enormously the world's spiritual movement by spreading the Advaita Vedanta knowledge. It is the path of non-duality, as the vision of the Self is absolutely non-dual. Ramana is considered the modern Master of this extraordinary teaching, which partly originated from Shankaracharya.
People came from all over the world in search for inspiration: in most cases he taught in silence, through his incredible presence of pure love.
Carl Jung wrote about Him: “He is genuine and, in addition to that, something quite phenomenal. In India he is the whitest spot in a white space.” But Jung admitted that he chose not to visit him while he was in India because he feared the experience would derail his evolving theory of the psyche.
Anandamayi Ma
30.4.1896-27.8.1982
Sivananda wrote about her: "the most perfect flower that the Indian sole has ever created." An incredible teacher, that attracted thousands of people, just with her sublime presence. She would spend weeks being in perfect Samadhi, in pure bliss. Her face expressed love, beauty and joy. Her ecstatic state and her teachings have inspired a great number of disciples.
Sathya Sai Baba
23.11.1926 - 24.4.2011
To talk about Sai Baba entire volumes would be needed. He's considered the greatest divine manifestation in India. With Babaji he's one of the "highest" Avatars.
His previous incarnation was Shirdi Sai Baba. He predicted where and when he would pass away and where and when he would be reborn in his third incarnation, as Prema Sai. He also materialized an image of Prema Sai.
Shirdi Sai Baba, 1830-15.10.1918
Prema Sai Baba
Sai Baba is the Spiritual Master that while alive has so far had the greatest impact on the world. He was born in Puttaparthi, a tiny village in an arid area of South India. Practically without ever moving from there he attracted millions of people from all over the world. At a young age he declared to be the second reincarnation of Shirdi Baba. People were quickly noticing his omniscience and his ability at materializing objects. As a child he would materialize sweets for other children. During his life there have been all kinds of miracles, including a reanimation of a person who was dead for six days. But his real miracle is his teaching and his energy of infinite love. Besides he built schools and hospitals free of charge throughout India.
It is said that Sai Baba has sent 12 more Avatars around the world, and in fact now it is known that they are born (some in western countries).
In this video we can see some images of Sai Baba at his main ashram in Puttaparthi. One hears his voice chanting the Gayatri Mantra, one of oldest mantras in history, found in the Rig Veda. It goes like this:
Om bhur bhuvah svah
tat-savitur varenyam
bhargo devasya dhimahi
dhiyo yo nah pracodayat
The Tibetan Master translates it as:
O Thou Who givest sustenance to the universe,
From Whom all things proceed,
To Whom all things return,
Unveil to us the face of the true Spiritual Sun
Hidden by a disc of golden Light
That we may know the Truth And do our whole duty
As we journey to Thy sacred feet.
For the most skeptics regarding Sai Baba's physical miracles, there is a small temple in Mysore, India, where there are three ongoing miracles, 24 hours a day, since many years. Anyone may visit the temple and witness and touch the miracles. The first miracle is a picture of Sai Baba that continues to emanate vibhuti, sacred ash. The second is a sculpture of Baba's feet that continuously secretes a jasmine scented oil. The third miracle is the emanation of amrita from two medals that have an image of Sai Baba. (Amrita is a nectar similar to honey, with an exquisite taste, that normally is formed in the mouths of saints to nourish their bodies). The medals are placed on the hands of the visitors, and one can clearly see that amrita is continuously formed out of the medals.
At Easter Sunday, the April 24, 2011 at 7.40 am (IST), an incarnation of Vishnu, Sathya Sai Baba left his body. What Baba has foretold (that He would die at 96 years old) was indeed correct. According to the Roman calendar he has completed 84 years. But one can note that generally in all of Baba’s discourses Baba had been referring to the star (lunar) basis in calculations. In Indian astrology there are 27 stars in a month starting with Aswathy and ending with Revathy. Accordingly a year of 12 months is composed of 324 days. Baba was born on 23 November 1926. From that day till 24 April 2011 there were a total of 30,834 days. If this is divided with 324, we get 95 years and 54 days. Accordingly, under the star basis of calculation he was in his 96th year having completed 54 days when he left his physical body.
Since Baba has nowhere indicated that he had the Roman calendar in mind, Philip Prasad is of the opinion that Baba’s prophecy was indeed correct.
Baba's last greeting by his last Darshan:
Normally Sai Baba greeted his devotees always with the hands in blessing position or with the right hand in Abhaya Hasta position. At his last darshan he has greeted with joint hands, the namaskar greeting, tipically of India. I never seen Sai Baba greeting in this way. It was a clear sign that He knew that he would leave the physical plane and wanted to take so farewell from humanity. The simplicity of its omniscience is simply divine. Here the photos of this last greeting:
Baba's Mahasamadhi:
“Life is a challenge, meet it! Life is a dream, realize it! Life is a game, play it! Life is Love, enjoy it!”
Who ist Sai Baba? Below you find an interesting links where they are given more information about one of the most extraordinary divine incarnations that humanity has ever known:
Extraordinary Master and Avatar living in South India. Whoever has met him knows exactly how incredible his spiritual nature is. Even before asking a question, he already gives you the answer. His materializations and miracles are innumerable by now. Premananda has been falsely accused of crimes never committed and is unfortunately another divine incarnation put to death by human ignorance. Nonetheless he remained totally untouched by the situation, continuing to emanate peace, divine joy, compassion and lovingly helping to deal with humanity's problems. He has been an incredible example of perfect Love!
After that Premananda has left the body on the Mahashivaratri 21.2.11, He has made yet another miracle to the delight of those present in the ashram: as a devotee was clearing away the flowers from the last Maharudra abishekam he discovered a large lingam covered with kumkum in the flowers.
Lingam materialized by Premananda after his death.
Djwal Khul
Also known as the Tibetan. Little is known about this extraordinary Master. The little information is found in the theosophical literature of Alice Bailey. In fact the Tibetan telepathically contacted Alice Bailey and dictated 24 volumes of sublime spiritual teachings. Some consider that no other work has ever reached such depth of spiritual consciousness. The only information regarding his physical life says he was an important Lama, teacher, who at times presided over a large group of Tibetan lamas. His age is unknown.
In each of his work the introduction is as follows:
"EXTRACT FROM A STATEMENT BY THE TIBETAN
(published in August 1934)
...suffice it to say, that I am a Tibetan disciple of a certain degree, and this tells you but little, for all are disciples from the humblest aspirant up to, and beyond, the Christ Himself. I live in a physical body like other men, on the borders of Tibet, and at times (from the exoteric standpoint) preside over a large group of Tibetan lamas, when my other duties permit. It is this fact that has caused it to be reported that I am an abbot of this particular lamasery. Those associated with me in the work of the Hierarchy (and all true disciples are associated in this work) know me by still another name and office. A.A.B. knows who I am and recognises me by two of my names.
I am a brother of yours, who has travelled a little longer upon the Path than has the average student, and has therefore incurred greater responsibilities. I am one who has wrestled and fought his way into a greater measure of light than has the aspirant who will read this article, and I must therefore act as a transmitter of the light, no matter what the cost. I am not an old man, as age counts among the teachers, yet I am not young or inexperienced. My work is to teach and spread the knowledge of the Ageless Wisdom wherever I can find a response, and I have been doing this for many years. I seek also to help the Master M. and the Master K.H. whenever opportunity offers, for I have been long connected with Them and with Their work. In all the above, I have told you much; yet at the same time I have told you nothing which would lead you to offer me that blind obedience and the foolish devotion which the emotional aspirant offers to the Guru and Master Whom he is as yet unable to contact. Nor will he make that desired contact until he has transmuted emotional devotion into unselfish service to humanity--not to the Master.
The books that I have written are sent out with no claim for their acceptance. They may, or may not, be correct, true and useful. It is for you to ascertain their truth by right practice and by the exercise of the intuition. Neither I nor A.A.B. is the least interested in having them acclaimed as inspired writings, or in having anyone speak of them (with bated breath) as being the work of one of the Masters. If they present truth in such a way that it follows sequentially upon that already offered in the world teachings, if the information given raises the aspiration and the will-to-serve from the plane of the emotions to that of the mind (the plane whereon the Masters can be found) then they will have served their purpose. If the teaching conveyed calls forth a response from the illumined mind of the worker in the world, and brings a flashing forth of his intuition, then let that teaching be accepted. But not otherwise. If the statements meet with eventual corroboration, or are deemed true under the test of the Law of Correspondences, then that is well and good. But should this not be so, let not the student accept what is said."
Through his writings, and infinite information, the Great Invocation was given to humanity. It was given as a gift for humanity, on full moon day in June 1945, by Maitreya the Christ. A. Bailey comments about it: "'The Great Invocation or Prayer does not belong to any person or group, but to all Humanity. The beauty and the strength of this Invocation lies in its simplicity, and in its expression of certain central truths which all men, innately and normally, accept: the truth of the existence of a basic Intelligence to Whom we vaguely give the name of God; the truth that behind all outer 'seeming', the motivating power of the universe is Love; the truth that a great Individuality came to earth, called by Christians, 'the Christ', and embodied that love so that we could understand; the truth that both love and intelligence are 'effects' of what is called the Will of God; and finally, the self-evident truth that only through humanity, itself, can the Divine Plan work out."
It allows one to invoke effectively the spiritual energies coming from the Buddha, Christ and Shambala.
The Great Invocation
From the point of Light within the Mind of God
Let light stream forth into the minds of men.
Let Light descend on Earth.
From the point of Love within the Heart of God
Let love stream forth into the hearts of men.
May Christ return to Earth.
From the centre where the Will of God is known
Let purpose guide the little wills of men -
The purpose which the Masters know and serve.
From the centre which we call the race of men
Let the Plan of Love and Light work out
And may it seal the door where evil dwells.
Let Light and Love and Power
restore the Plan on Earth.
Maitreya
Maitreya's apparition in Nairobi on 11.6.1988
Maitreya is the Master of the Masters, He has been expected for generations by all of the major religions. Christians know him as the second coming of Christ and expect his imminent return. The Jews await him as the messiah; the Hindus as Sri Kalki, the return of Krishna; the Buddhists as Maitreya Buddha; the Muslim as the Imam Mahdi. Although the names are different, many believe that they all refer to the same individual: the World Teacher, whose personal name is Maitreya.
Preferring to be known simply as the Teacher, Maitreya has not come as a religious leader, or to found a new religion, but as a teacher and guide for people of every religion and those of no religion.
At this time of great political, economic and social crisis Maitreya will inspire humanity to see itself as one family, and create a civilization based on sharing, economic and social justice, and global cooperation.
He will launch a call to action to save the millions of people who starve to death every year in a world of plenty. Among Maitreya's recommendations will be a shift in social priorities so that adequate food, housing, clothing, education, and medical care become universal rights.
Under Maitreya's inspiration, humanity itself will make the required changes and create a saner and more just world for all.
According to Benjamin Creme, Maitreya has already started giving interviews on American TV channels, explaining what are the economic mechanism that create injustice in the world. More and more his ideas will attract people's attention, generating a shift of consciousness. Along with Maitreya other masters will cooperate with his plan. Some of them apparently are already present in a few main cities of the world.

You who gave the Ashram,
And you who gave two lives,
Proclaim.
Builders and warriors, strengthen the steps.
Reader, if you have not grasped — read again,
after a while.
The predestined is not accidental,
The leaves fall in their time.
And winter is but the harbinger of spring.
All is revealed; all is attainable.
I will cover you with My shield, if you but tend to your labors.
I have spoken.
I am — your Bliss
I am — your Smile
I am — your Joy
I am — your Rest
I am — your Strength
I am — your Valor
I am — your Wisdom

“Only an absolute and unconditioned love for Truth can save human beings from illusion.”
